Lambing for 2010 is now well underway. All has gone very well this year - I shouldn't say that too soon!

In the picture are one of our pedigree Jacob Sheep with her newborn twin lambs.

We still have our youngsters left to lamb perhaps in the next 2 -3 weeks.

1/3/2010

Why not buy some fresh Jacob lamb to take home with you-or some burgers to use on holiday. Available from the farm.

After having a pleasant spring with exceptionally good weather our first lambs are ready for market. Last Tuesday the first 10 were collected and sorted and delivered to our local market. Prices this year are exceptionally good. That makes a change!

The sheep shearer has come and shorn the sheep. This is necessary because the sheep can suffer heat exhaustion in the summer if not relieved of their fleeces - also the fleeces can create a haven in for flies which lay their eggs in it in the summer especially when it is hot and wet - in particular thundery or muggy weather.

This is obviously extremely unpleasant for the sheep and almost as unpleasant for the farmer who treats the problem. Unfortunately like allot of things in farming the fleeces are not worth much and in many cases do not cover the cost of shearing.

For the first time ever we have sent our wool away to be spun so now you can purchase beautiful Jacob wool from us in Arun knit from the farm shop or Mail Order.  We also have knitted products which I have made myself as well as Jacob skins.
